This qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ Diploma Electrical Installation). It has been developed for use with the Apprenticeship framework and for those who wish to pursue a career in the electro-technical/building services sector. It is recognised by the Joint Industry Board (JIB) for grading as an electrician.
This qualification comprises of knowledge and performance units which between them cover: health, safety and environmental considerations, organising and overseeing, terminating and connecting, inspection, testing and commissioning, fault diagnosis and rectification, electrical scientific principles, BS 7671, electrical design and electrical maintenance. It requires occupational evidence from the workplace.
Knowledge units are assessed by a mixture of on-screen assessments, centre marked assignments and written assessments. Performance units require auditable evidence of competent performance from the workplace (portfolio). All learner evidence must be available to the EAL External Verifier.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments. The qualification requires occupational evidence from the workplace.
