Introduction
This EAL qualification provides a comprehensive understanding of BS7671:2018+A4:2026, supporting electricians, designers and inspectors who need to align their knowledge with Amendment 4 of the IET Wiring Regulations. It replaces qualification 603/3298/0 and came into effect April 2026.
The essential update to the IET Wiring Regulations will form the UK national standard for
- All new low voltage electrical installations
- Additions and alterations to existing installations
- Periodic inspection and testing of existing installations.
Significant changes include:
- A new chapter on Stationary Secondary Batteries where the purpose is for electrical storage and supply of electrical installations.
- A new section on Functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for information and communication technology (ICT) equipment and systems
- A new section of Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- A major revision of Section 710 Medical Locations and the inclusion of a schedule of test results for recording the resistance of supplementary protective equipotential bonding conductors

The regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, also additions and alterations to existing installations. Existing installations that have been installed in accordance with earlier editions of the Regulations may not comply with this edition in every respect. This does not necessarily mean that they are unsafe for continued use or require upgrading. Virtually everyone working in electrical installation needs to be up to date with the latest wiring regulations. It is essentially the latest guidelines to show compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations. Many installers and employers require it, as do governing bodies and competent person schemes.

The 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2018 + A4 (2026) electrical course will incorporate the very latest amendments and updates (Amendments 1 to 4). This qualification covers the full content of BS7671:2018 (2026) IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition.
The course is theory based, providing the under pinning knowledge and understanding of all parts of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulation BS7671:2018 (2026). Candidates are expected to complete an open book multiple choice test on the final day.
This course will deal with each individual section of the wiring regulations and there will be plenty of opportunity to practice and be assessed on your knowledge and understanding of the content. There are no formal entry requirements for this course. This qualification is suitable for a variety of people and you do not need any previous electrical qualification to join this course. We would, however, recommend that candidates have a general knowledge of electrical installations to aid them in being successful with this qualification.
If you have no previous installation experience you may want to attend our Basic Electrics and Safe Isolation course prior to taking this 18th Edition course.
